Fiberglass Boat Transom Repair & Replacement
The fiberglass boat transom performs one of the most critical jobs in a fiberglass boat’s structure. The transom supports outboard motors, stern drive assemblies, rudder posts, and absorbs massive stresses every time the boat runs through a sea.
Common transom failures include:
- Water intrusion into plywood cores causing rot
- Flexing of the transom skin under load
- Stress cracks around mounting points
- Delamination of fiberglass laminate from vibration and pounding seas
A weak transom is dangerous. Engines can separate, handling suffers, and the boat rapidly loses structural integrity.
Captain Dave and Captain Levi Holley repair and replace fiberglass boat transoms by:
- Carefully removing all compromised laminate and rotted core
- Installing new core materials (marine plywood, composite, or foam) chosen for best application
- Laminating new fiberglass skins with epoxy or vinyl ester resin and biaxial fabrics
- Tabbing the rebuilt transom properly into hull sides and bottom
- Fairing, sealing, and finishing with gelcoat color‑matched to the original hull
With modern materials and professional practices, new transoms are far stronger than original factory builds. The boat regains full structural integrity, resale value, and most importantly, safety offshore.
